Cobalt HSS-Co5
BORDO Cobalt HSS-Co5 Jobber Drill Fractional
- Bordo Fractional Cobalt Tough HSS-Co5 Twist Drills.
- ANSI B94-11
- 135° Split Point (crankshaft point).
- Split point is self centering and the short distance from the drill axis to the outer corners results in faster penetration, reducing the need for end thrust.
- The 135° point should be used to cut harder steel materials especially in deep hole applications.
- In these situations it will produce thicker chips minimising work hardening of the cavity.
- Faster penetration reduces abrasion and friction along the cutting edges.
- Cobalt HSS Twist drills are extremely hard and provide superior performance and increased tool life especially in stainless steel and high tensile steel.
- Bronze Finish (gold oxide) surface treatment. The metallic brown coloured low temperature temper treatment is normally only used on cobalt tools for identification purposes.

Colour Band
BORDO Blue Band HSS-Co TiAlN Stainless Steel Drilling Metric
- Bordo Metric Blue Band HSS-Co TiAlN Coated Twist Drills for Stainless Steel.
- DIN338
- Multi-faceted point with two helical flutes with 35 degrees of helix angle.
- The machining of stainless steels is difficult due to its work hardening properties, toughness and poor thermal conductivity, which places high demands on the cutting tools.
- The Blue Band – Stainless Steel – Series has been specifically designed to suit these difficult machining requirements.
- TiAlN coating increases tool surface hardness to 87Rc.
- For machining materials with Hardness < 350 HB : Tensile Strength <1250 N/mm2.

Bright Finish HSS
BORDO Wire Gauge Bright Finish HSS Jobber Drill
- Bordo Wire Gauge Quick Silver M2-HSS Twist Drills.
- 118° Standard Chisel Point
- Chisel point is ideal for general purpose drilling.
- 118° point angles are ideal for use in materials such as mild steel and cast iron.
- The 118° point creates easily controlled chips which are wide and thin.
- Bright Finish Twist Drills have no surface treatment and are supplied in the as-ground condition.
- These tools are suitable for general purpose use, particularly for non-ferrous applications.
- Gauge size drill calculations are generally made utilising a reference book or table.
- For example, to drill a hole which is 10 thou (thousandth of an inch = .001) bigger than a 1/8″ bolt, the user must first work out that 1/8″ is 125 thou, so the required hole size is 135 thou. Using a reference table establishes that you would need a number 29.
- Number drill bit gauge sizes are analogous to, but different from, American wire gauge.
- Number gauge is most commonly used from size 80 (the smallest) to size 1 (the largest) followed by letter gauge size A (the smallest) to size Z (the largest).
- Number gauge is actually defined down to size 97, but these smallest sizes are very rarely used.
