Bridge reamers are used to create an aligned hole in a structural steel assembly. These reamers enlarge and align holes for rivets and bolts in structural steel members such as I-beams, angles, channels, and plates.
The reamer is tapered for approximately half its FL allowing the reamer to enter out-of-line holes often encountered in structural work.
All tools are constructed with left-hand spiral and right-hand cut.
The left-hand spiral eliminates the tendency of the reamer to pull itself into the hole.
In large structural assemblies, the holes are generally punched undersize and then reamed when in position.
The idea is that the holes most likely will not line up within about 1/8″ when a fabricated 50 foot beam or column is finally put into place.
Coolant or cutting tool lubricant should be utilitised when possible.
Benefits include better finishes, superior tool life and the ability to increase speeds and feeds.
Bridge reamers should be run at half the R.P.M. suggested for a corresponding twist drill size.
Bordo Adjustable Reamers are made from premium HSS.
Precise hole control through adjustable sizing.
Replaceable blades for maximum tool life.
With adjustable size control an adjustable hand reamer is designed as a general purpose reamer that can cover a small range of sizes and produce a clean, accurate hole.
Because there is no spiral in the flutes, hole size is obtained by removing a small amount of material with each cut.
Progressive cuts of around 0.05mm per pass are required to avoid chatter.
Adjustable reamers are ideal for light usage in unbroken holes, in plastics and non-ferrous metals.
